My name is Alfonso López, and cooking has always been at the heart of my life. My childhood taught me that food is not just about flavor, but about family, culture and presence and the kitchen became a place of connection, learning and joy for us.

I gained valuable experience working in restaurants across Oaxaca city while studying to become an English/Spanish teacher. From there, I deepened my knowledge and passion of Mexican/Oaxacan cuisine which prompted me to later study at a culinary school in Oaxaca city.

My background in teaching and cooking naturally led me to start offering cooking classes to students studying Spanish, and to those who had an interest in Oaxacan food.

In 2016, I decided to bring everything together and opened our cooking workshops at home with my parents. It felt like a natural step, sharing not just recipes, but the traditions and stories that shape us in our Oaxacan cuisine.

Cooking has always been part of our family’s daily life. My mom learned to cook mole from her mother – a tradition that has been shared throughout our family  and something we deeply cherish. My dad ran a successful taco business in our hometown; Istmo Tehuantepec for many years and was a musician in a band, which is how he met my mom working at a Mercado. Being in the kitchen together is simply who we are.

Today, They love welcoming people into our home to share authentic Oaxacan food, culture, and the warmth of our family.
